Listening: A radio announcement about a food festival
A local radio presenter talks about a weekend food festival. Practise catching times, prices and places in a one-speaker announcement.
One speaker, lots of information
In announcements and talks, the speaker moves quickly from one topic to the next: times, then prices, then transport. The questions follow the same order.
Before you listen, read the questions and predict:
- closes at ___ → a time
- about ___ stalls → a number
- bring your own ___ → a thing (noun)
While you listen, keep your eyes one question ahead. If you miss an answer, move on. Don't let one question cost you three.
Prices
Free = £0 · a pound = £1 · five pounds fifty = £5.50 · half price = 50% off

Presenter: And now some news for food lovers. The Harbour Food Festival is back this weekend, and this year it's bigger than ever.
Presenter: It takes place in Harbour Square on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday it's open from ten in the morning until nine at night, and on Sunday from ten until six.
Presenter: Entry to the festival is free. However, if you want to watch one of the cooking demonstrations, you'll need a ticket, which costs five pounds and can be bought online.
Presenter: There will be about sixty food stalls, selling everything from fresh seafood to homemade cakes and street food from around the world.
Presenter: One of the highlights is the chefs' competition on Saturday at two o'clock, where four local chefs have one hour to cook a meal using only ingredients from the market.
Presenter: And for younger visitors, there's a children's baking workshop on Sunday morning at eleven. It's for children aged six to twelve, and places are limited, so please book in advance.
Presenter: Now, a word about getting there. There's no parking at the harbour during the festival, so please use the park-and-ride. Buses leave from the football stadium every fifteen minutes, and a return ticket costs one pound.
Presenter: The organisers are also trying to cut plastic waste this year. If you bring your own cup, you'll get one pound off any drink.
Presenter: And don't worry about the weather. If it rains, all the events will move into large tents beside the square. So, see you at the harbour!
